I started with this recipe, and did this: Fried 1 1/2 medium onions, finely diced, in olive oil. Added 3 cloves of garlic, minced, and 2 lbs ground beef. Cooked until the ground beef was no longer pink. Added oregano, basil, crushed chiles, salt and pepper to taste. Added about 20 oz crushed tomatoes and cooked for a few minutes. It tasted bland to me, so I added some soy sauce.

Meanwhile, I fried the top half of a head of napa cabbage in olive oil and seasoned it with salt. And I grated around 200 g combined of asiago and mozzarella.

I layered the meat sauce, the cabbage, full-fat ricotta, and asiago and mozzarella (twice to fill the pan). Then I baked at 350 for 30 minutes.
